Welcome to Dr. Sonia Sharma’s Academy
Hello, I am Dr. Sonia Sharma (formerly Taneja). I received my Bachelor of Arts from Barnard College, Columbia University, Master of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University and Doctorate degree in Leadership from American College of Education. I have 20 years of professional teaching experience from prestigious and world-renowned universities such as Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, and Columbia University in the City of New York and higher education institutions such as the Defense Language Institute, part of the US Department of Defense.
Sonia Ji is an incredible Hindi instructor. Her multifaceted teaching methods, patience with students, and expertise make her uniquely equipped to teach students Hindi. With her support, I developed proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking, as well as knowledge in Indian culture and heritage. I’m so grateful that Sonia Ji was my Hindi teacher!
At the Defense Language Institute, I had the amazing opportunity of being a student of Ms. Sharma. Her dedication to teaching and above-average qualities are endless. During the time I have known and worked with her, Ms. Sharma displayed excellent teaching abilities.
Dr. Sharma was habitually well-prepared for class and had ready multiple engaging exercises and activities that emphasized speaking, reading, writing, and listening equally…always made certain that each member of the class clearly understood them…would split the class into small groups and provide us with a topic to discuss that was relevant to the day’s lessons…made sure that the classroom environment was welcoming and non-judgmental.
Professor Sharma’s way of teaching combines hard skills as a researcher and problem-solver along with the soft skills of someone who brings purpose to their work, which results in a truly immersive way to learn the Hindi language that is both accessible and rewarding.
